Anais West

Anais (they/he) is a queer & trans playwright, producer and performer, as well as a Polish settler based on occupied xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam),  Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and səlil̓wətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) lands (Vancouver, BC, Canada). Anais’ transdisciplinary works include the short film Underground Absolute Fiction (Rumble Theatre, Vancouver); the slam-poetry musical Poly Queer Love Ballad (Queer Arts Festival, frank theatre and Zee Zee Theatre, Vancouver, and Theatre Passe Muraille, Toronto); the immersive, site-specific show The Café (Aphotic Theatre, ITSAZOO theatre and PuSh Festival, Vancouver); and the dance-theatre performance Tomboy (Chłopczyca), slated for production with the frank theatre in 2026.  As a bilingual creator, they’ve performed nationally in both Anglophone and Francophone productions with companies like the National Arts Centre, Orange Noyée, Savage Society, Firehall Arts Centre, The Only Animal and Théâtre La Seizième. He has been nominated for two Jessie Richardson Awards, including Outstanding Original Script, and was the 2023 winner of the Wildfire National Playwriting Competition for Tomboy (Chłopczyca). His writing has been published in This is Beyond: A Time Capsule of Queer Experience (Playwrights Canada Press.) Anais works as the Artistic Producer at the frank theatre company.
